Manchester Criminal Investigation Unit is charged with the responsibility
of conducting investigations of major crimes, crimes involving substantial follow up, and those cases assigned by the Chief
of Police.
The detective unit has an investigator who
specialize in narcotic cases, juvenile cases, sexual assault cases, domestic violence cases, burglary and larceny cases, and
many other cases involving further investigations. Also, serious misdemeanors requiring specializes knowledge are included
in the investigator's caseload. The duties of the detective is crime scene processing, evidence collection, interviewing
witnesses and suspects, preparing cases for prosecution, and assisting other law enforcement agencies in the prevention, detection
of crime, and the apprehension of criminals.
The investigative process usually starts
with a patrol officer completing an initial crime report, and then is referred to C.I.U. Detective also investigates a large
number of self-initiated cases.
Detective Captain Bruce Troutman heads this
unit and receives assistance from one patrol corporal when assistants is needed.
