In 2007, Cpl. Matthew Nickolas was appointed as the Manchester Police Department K-9 handler.
Cpl. Nickolas began his career with the Manchester Police Department on February 28, 2003 as Police Officer. In June
2005 he was promoted Police Corporal as Training Coordinator. He continues that responsibility as well as canine handler
for the department. The canine team is Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission Certified. Cpl. Nickolas and canine Lasso are
also a member of the North American Police Working Dog Association.
The pair's main duties
include building and area searches, evidence location, criminal apprehension and narcotic detection. Lasso and Officer Cpl.Nickolas are
available for group demonstrations and appearances at special events.
Chief Walters, Capt. Troutman and the Manchester Police Department
staff with council congratulate Cpl. Nickolas and Lasso on his new appointment. They realize the tremendous dedication this
position requires and know Cpl. Nickolas will continue our K-9 program with the same spirit and professionalism standard as
he always has with this department.
